Sally Carp, née Bennett, died at home early Thursday, February 25, 2021. She leaves behind her loving husband of over 60 years, Richard Carp, her children, Daniel, Melissa, and Joshua, wonderful daughters-in-law, Lisa Carp and Amy Cacciola, and beloved grandchildren Aubrey and her husband Jordan, Sean, Sarah, Nadia, Joseph, great-grandson Harrison, and sister, Penelope Bennett.
Sally was born in London in 1936 and moved to New York with her family when she was a teenager. She graduated from Queens College and earned a Master's degree in Special Education from the College of Staten Island. She was a patient and dedicated educator who spent her career teaching children to read. Sally cared about her community and always stood up for what she believed in.
Sally enjoyed art, travelling, and going to the theater, but her main joy and focus was family. She lived each day with love and compassion, consistently giving endless support and acceptance to those around her. Her ability to find beauty and positivity in all situations brightened the world for everyone in her life. Even when living through a long illness, her compassion would always shine through.
Her last years were filled with love and dignity thanks to her amazing healthcare workers, Beatrice, Paulette, Emmie, and Kay.
Sally was an incredibly loyal friend. Over the years she and her dear friend Carla exchanged haikus, including this one:
Good-bye Haiku
When it's time to go
I'll just slip off quietly
Sending love to all
And she did.
