Sangita Parab

Dr. Sangita Parab, born September 28, 1973, was a devoted mother, accomplished physician, and beloved daughter, sister, friend, and colleague. She will be remembered for her determination, compassion, independence, and the deep love she had for her family.

Sangita dedicated her professional life to healthcare as an Internal Medicine physician, and was deeply committed to her patients and the medical community. She served as President of the Richmond County Medical Society, reflecting her dedication to both her profession and those who worked alongside her.

Above all, Sangita was a caring mother. She leaves behind her two children, who were at the heart of her life. She took great pride in knowing their individual personalities and interests, and she often found thoughtful ways to make them feel cared for. She enjoyed cooking for her family and would experiment with fusion dishes, adapting Indian recipes and flavors to suit her children's Americanized tastes, like a shrimp curry with pasta, one of her daughter’s favorite things to eat.

Outside of medicine and family, Sangita found joy in gardening and music. She enjoyed spending time in her backyard garden with her children, tending to flowers, bushes, and plants of all kinds. She also delighted in opportunities to encourage their curiosity, like growing snow peas when her son saw them in a store and wanted to see what they were. She also loved listening to the radio and had a particular fondness for ABBA. Their music remained a familiar and comforting presence in her life, bringing her joy even in her final days.

In June 2020, Sangita suffered a stroke that left her severely disabled and brought significant challenges to the years that followed. Regardless, she faced her issues with the same resolve and determination that had characterized her for so many years, as she slowly relearned to eat and communicate.

Sangita will be remembered for the lives she touched as a physician, the love she gave as a mother, and the many qualities that made her uniquely herself. Her memory will live on most deeply through her children, her family, her friends, and the many people who had the privilege of knowing her.

She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.

A Visitation will be held at Casey Funeral Home, 350 Slosson Ave, Staten Island, NY 10314, US, on September 25, 2026, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. The prayer ceremony (puja) will take place at Casey Funeral Home beforehand from 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm.
