
WWII Army veteran and Purple Heart recipient
Stanley Lada, 104 years young, died Tuesday, March 8, 2016, at Staten Island University North. He was born on Feb. 7, 1912, in his parents home on Jersey Street, Staten Island, N.Y.
He resided in West Brighten with his wife of 60 years, Eleanor Tessitore, who passed away in 2001.
The viewing will be Thursday, March 10, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. The memorial service will take place on Friday, March 11, 2016, at St. Stanilsaus Kostka Roman Catholic Church in New Brighten, S.I. The burial will be at St. Peter's Cemetery, West Brighten, S.I.
Stanley was the son of the late Walter and Stella Lada, second oldest of nine children. Surviving are his daughter, Cecelia and his son-in-law, Steven Powell; granddaughter, Cindy McVey and her husband, Michael, and his grandson, Steven Michael, and his wife, Christine. Stanley had three great-grandchildren, Kayla Powell, Michael and EllaRose McVey.
He enjoyed football and played for the New Brighten Redskins. He was a member of the Carpenters Union Local 20.
He served in the Army during World War II as a private in the 53rd Medical Battalion. He was captured by German soldiers and was wounded, in which he was awarded two Purple Hearts. He enjoyed gardening, making wine and playing with his great grandchildren.
