Mr. McCarthy grew up in South Beach and graduated from St. Peter's Boys High School. He moved to Yonkers three years ago.
He went to work for the MTA 1997 as a conductor, and was promoted to train supervisor in 2009.
While he lived on the Island, Mr. McCarthy was a parishioner of Holy Rosary R.C. Parish in South Beach. He was a longtime member of Stolzenthaler Council, Knights of Columbus.
He enjoyed traveling, cooking, and spending time with his family.
Surviving are his wife of four years, the former Margaret Zysk; his daughter, Lily Ann McCarthy; his parents, Martin and Linda McCarthy, and his sister, Karen Ferrando.
The funeral will be Monday from the Casey Funeral Home, with a mass at 9:30 a.m. in St. Teresa's R.C. Church, both in Castleton Corners. Arrangements include cremation.
