It's said that people come into our lives for a reason or a season.    With Tom, it was one the longest running seasons of our lives.  Here was a man who double -locked every door and window (and God help you if you left the gate open) yet opened his heart and his home to us with a welcome mat that said "Go Away".   He treated us as he did all those he chose to call friend,  with generosity, kindness,  and a seat at that table where food, drink and camaraderie was always aplenty.   Indeed, we celebrated his birthday far more than his 91 yrs.!    Yet these memories barely scratch the surface.  Wicked and funny and wickedly funny, he had a serious side.  He was a master at carpentry, "at home" with his hammer and saw using the same golden hands in his shop to help others "Sit up straight!".  He was an artist, a painter, a gardener -  in touch with nature, always with a dog or cat by his side,  and definitely one for the birds.  He loved God's creatures great and small.    Demanding, commanding and fierce, when adversities came, he never backed down, never gave in.  For as Tom would say "We're not doing that!"   (With love and tears,   The Jackies)
