Born in Brooklyn, Mr. Olsen moved to Westerleigh in 1955.
He was a computer analyst for Goldman Sachs before retiring in 1980. He and his wife, Margaret, then operated a catering business, Stuart-Olsen Caterers, during the 1980s and 1990s, that was headquartered in West Brighton.
He had a dry sense of humor and enjoyed movies, dining out, shopping, and spending time with his family. He also enjoyed traveling and hosting parties.
“He was a quiet man with a big heart,” said his daughter, Lori. “His grandchildren all had a nickname for him such as Dad, Pop, Beeps, Bepbop, Sailor, Mr. O and Leif.”
His wife of 59 years, the former Margaret Dawson, died in 2007.
Mr. Olsen is survived by four sons, Timothy, Matthew, James and William; four daughters, Lynn Gerwer, Lori Olsen, Lisa Hughes and Lois Olsen; 17 grandchildren, and one great-grandson.
The Casey Funeral Home, Castleton Corners, is handling the arrangements, which include a 10 a.m. service on Tuesday at the funeral home followed by burial in Fairview Cemetery, Castleton Corners.
