Veronica DeForge Harding – Obituary

	Veronica DeForge Harding peacefully passed away on October 20th, 2019.  She was a life-long Staten Islander, born and raised in New Brighton.  Mrs. Harding attended Curtis High School and the Frances Schervier Academy at the Novitiate of the Sisters of St. Frances in Warwick, NY.
	After leaving the convent, Mrs. Harding worked as a secretary and payroll clerk at Guaranty Trust Co. in Manhattan.  She married Joseph R. Harding in 1961, and upon the birth of their first child, left the workforce to become a full-time homemaker.  For 10 years she and her family resided on Hart Blvd.  In 1974, the family moved to Sunset Hill in West Brighton, where she resided the rest of her days.
	Mrs. Harding, along with her husband, was very active in forming Staten Island Parents for the Emotionally Disabled (SIPED), the first support and advocacy group for autistic children on Staten Island.  In 1971, the organization was directly responsible for the founding of the Twombly School in Bay Terrace, the first Staten Island school dedicated to the education of emotionally/developmentally handicapped children.  The School relocated to Seaview Ave. and was renamed the Seaside School in September 1972.  
	Mrs. Harding enjoyed spending time with family, playing cards, and reading.  While she loved all her children, Veronica dedicated her life to the support and well-being of her son Joseph.  She is predeceased by her beloved husband of 43 years, retired NYPD Deputy Inspector Joseph R. Harding Sr., and is survived by her four sons; Stephen (Indira), Joseph, William (Susan), and Kevin, and three Grandchildren; Elizabeth, Liam, and Fernando.  She is also survived by one brother and three sisters; John Deforge, Theresa Marco, Doris Kepler Jackson, and Carol Casacalenda.
	The Funeral will be Friday from the Casey Funeral Home, Castleton Corners, with a 10 AM funeral mass at Blessed Sacrament Church, West Brighton.  Christian Burial at St. Peter’s Cemetery.

I was so very sorry to learn of the untimely passing of your Mom. Although we haven’t seen each other in several years, I  will always remember chatting with her when you lived on Hart Blvd. The years went by but the  lovely memories  will always remain.
