Victor J. Cella, 76, passed away at his home in Eltingville, surrounded by his loving family, on Thursday, July 29, 2021, from cirrhosis of the liver caused by auto-immune disease.
Born in Coaldale, PA to Elizabeth Moravek and Victor Cella on December 19, 1944, he later moved to Manhattan, New York where he met his wife, Pauline Cella, of 50 years. They were married in 1971 and moved to Staten Island in 1974.
He was a US Army veteran who served in the Vietnam era as a military police officer in Japan from 1965 to 1967. He retired from John Wiley & Sons, Inc. as a mail services supervisor, where he worked for over 40 years.
He enjoyed trips to Atlantic City with his wife, spending time with his grandkids, eating breakfast at Andrew's, a local diner, eating sweets, playing cornhole, doing crossword puzzles and feeding his koi fish and turtles in his pond. He was a Dallas Cowboys and Pittsburgh Pirates fan.
Victor is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Pauline Cella; his daughters, Nicole Matarazzo, Danielle Pumilia and Suzanne Cella; his son-in-laws, Louis and John; his grandchildren, Olivia, Louis and Christopher; his sister, Linda Harris; and four nieces. He is predeceased by one nephew.
A viewing will be held at Casey McCallum Rice Funeral Home (30 Nelson Ave, Staten Island) on Tuesday, August 3 from 2-4pm and 7-9pm. A Funeral Mass will be held at Holy Child Church (4747 Amboy Road, Staten Island) on Wednesday August 4 at 10am, followed by a burial at Resurrection Cemetery.
