Victoria E. Rivera, 91 Born in Puerto Rico, she retired as a city collections clerk Victoria E. Rivera, 91, passed away on Dec. 17, 2018. She was born in Ponce, Puerto Rico, and lived in Santurce before leaving for Manhattan when she was 16. She came to New York City before World War II ended, in a victory ship that landed in New Orleans, La. She made her way up to Manhattan with her aunt and mother. She attended Yorkville High School, where she graduated. She worked as a dressmaker, making samples for an affiliate of Peck and Peck, a high-end dressmaking company of the times. While working, she was also a homemaker, mother, and wife. After a brief hiatus from dressmaking, she continued her education and became a clerk for City Collections of the City of New York, where she retired. She was a resident of Staten Island since 1962. Victoria was a hard-working, devoted mother, homemaker, wife, employee, and friend. She was a communicant of St. Mary's Church in Rosebank until it closed. She was a loyal member of the Rosary Altar Society. She learned, made and taught others how to make rosaries for the missions of her church and her daughter's churches. She will be sorely missed. Victoria was predeceased by her husband, Alfredo Sr.; her brothers, Walter Rodriguez, Israel and Jose Wilfredo Batista, and her sister, Migdalia McMahon. She is survived by her sisters, Miriam Lugo, Edna Retik, May Smith, Zaida Febles; daughter, Nancy Krahn and her husband, Fred; her son Alfredo Jr.; her grandchildren, Rachel Hansen, Keriann Beke, Brendan Bianowicz, Alisha Heaps, Andrew Rivera, Alexa Rivera; three great-granddaughters; two great-grandsons, and many loving relatives and friends. Her wake will be held at Casey Funeral Home on Dec. 27 from 3 to 7 p.m. Her Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Dec. 28 at St. Joseph's Church, 463 Tompkins Ave., S.I., N.Y. 10305. She will be buried at Oceanview Cemetery, 3315 Amboy Rd., S.I., N.Y. 10306. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions in Victoria's name to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America.
