OBITUARY

Virginia O. Brown

July 13, 1927June 21, 2020

Virginia O. Brown, 92 Native Islander The family of Virginia Onorata Brown is saddened to announce her death this past Sunday, June 21,2020. She was born July 13, 1927 to Frank and Catherine Onorata on Staten Island, where she remained a life-long resident. Virginia was married to Edward R. Brown, who pre-deceased her in 1956. She is survived by three children, Veronica, Edward, and Stephen. Her fourth child, Kenneth, died in 2015. His ashes are to be interred with her. In addition to raising her own four children as a single parent, Virginia served the children of New York City as a Board of Education resource room teacher. Her career spanned decades, and she had earned two masters' degrees in the field before retiring. Her example of fortitude, focus, and persistence will be missed. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, June 25, 2020, at 10 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Church, Forest Avenue, Staten Island. Subsequent burial at St. Peter's Cemetery. Family requests donations to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in lieu of flowers.

Prayer of St. Francis of Assisi Lord, make me an instrument of Your peace; where there is hatred, let me sow love; where there is injury, pardon; where there is doubt, faith; where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light; and where there is sadness, joy. O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console; to be understood as to understand; to be loved, as to love; for it is in giving that we receive; it is in pardoning that we are pardoned; and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

Dear Virginia,
You are our friend who had the grace and elegance of a true lady. We always had fun and laughs together. We enjoyed talking about foods from our German heritage. Our MJ group was richer because of your wisdom. You will always be there with us when we play. We will miss you dear friend.
