Walter grew up on East 82nd Street in Manhattan where Central Park and museums were in his backyard (as Walter would say). He enlisted in the Army and was a medic in Germany. After his service he began his long and successful career at Chase Manhattan Bank in Manhattan. He raised his two daughters in Howard Beach Queens with his former wife Inge. Many years later he met and fell in love with his current wife Cathy and they settled in Staten Island.
He is remembered by all that knew him for his love of family, kindness of heart, and wonderful story telling. His quick wit and humor would bring a smile to people. He loved his Maine vacations especially sharing them with family and friends, boating on Long Lake, star gazing, playing games and just being around those he loved. Vermont was another favorite vacation spot but not for skiing, the cold crisp winter sky was prefect for star and planet gazing. He enjoyed music and loved to sing along with Sinatra and show tunes.
Walter is survived by his wife Cathy of 32 years, daughters, Debbie and husband Nick, Dawn and husband Dan, brothers, Edward Sr., Tommy and Paul, grandsons, Nicky, Vincent and Dylan, several nieces, nephews and in laws.
He was preceded in his death by his parents Catherine and William, sisters Jane, Grace, brothers, Billy and Charlie.
Walter’s legacy lives on in his children, grandchildren and all who loved him.
