

Born and raised in Brooklyn, he moved to Westerleigh in 1965 and lived there until 2006, when he relocated to Jackson.
Mr. Beer served in the Merchant Marine and in the U.S. Naval Reserves.
He had a 20-year career with the Fire Department. He retired in 1982 from the FDNY Field Communication Division. During that time, he also owned and operated a house painting business.
Mr. Beer was a volunteer in the gift shop at the former St. Vincent's Hospital in West Brighton for many years.
An avid reader, he also enjoyed cooking, fine dining and traveling. His favorite destinations included Ireland and Italy.
His first wife, the former Patricia Carlin, died in 2001.
Surviving Mr. Beer are his wife of eight years, the former Concetta Speranza; his son, Timothy, and his daughter, Barbara Beer.
The funeral will be Thursday from the Casey Funeral Home, with a mass at 10:45 a.m. in St. Teresa's R.C. Church, both in Castleton Corners. Burial will follow in St. Peter's Cemetery, West Brighton.
