William was born in Staten Island and grew up in West Brighton. He attended McKee High School, where he played basketball.
He retired five years ago from Clove Lakes Nursing Home, where he was the head of environmental services. He was an avid sports fan, and enjoyed attending and coaching his grandchildren with sports.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia Ambio; his children, Margaret Trembone, Karen Ambio and William Ambio Jr.; son-in-law, Chris Trembone; his sister, Donna Brothers, and 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be on Wednesday and Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 at Casey Funeral Home, 350 Slosson Ave. Mass is Friday 9:30 a.m. at St. Teresa's.
