William J Wieser

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. - William J. Wieser, 37, a lifelong resident of Great Kills and a city Sanitation worker who aided in the recovery efforts after 9/11, died Sunday at home.
Mr. Wieser was a 1993 graduate of Monsignor Farrell High School in Oakwood.
He began working for the city Sanitation Department in 2001. He was on duty in Downtown Manhattan on 9/11, when the World Trade Center was attacked by terrorists. Mr. Wieser helped in cleanup and recovery efforts at the site.
He loved fishing, particularly off Montauk, L.I., and was fond of animals.
Mr. Wieser especially enjoyed taking his nephews, Mark and Robby, to the Staten Island Zoo in West Brighton, and for pizza afterward.
An avid New York Jets fan, he loved playing all types of sports. He also enjoyed reading, with history books a favorite.
Mr. Wieser was a big music fan and enjoyed attending Bruce Springsteen and U2 concerts.
He was a parishioner of St. Clare’s R.C. Church, Great Kills.
“We loved him very much,” said his brother, Robert. “His nephews will miss him.”
Also surviving Mr. Wieser is his mother, Mary Wieser.
The funeral will be Friday from the Casey-McCallum-Rice South Shore Funeral Home, Great Kills, with a mass at 9:45 a.m. in St. Clare’s Church. Burial will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne, N.Y.
