Richie departed this life on Sunday, February 3, 2019. He was born in Newark, New Jersey. The son of the late William and Justine Wood. He attended PS26 and PS18. He graduated from PS18 and attended Curtis High School, where he was a member of The Honor Society (ARISTA) for 4 years. He graduated from Curtis High School at the age of 16 and attended New York University. He graduated from New York University at the age of 20 with a Bachelor of Arts degree, majoring in radio, motion pictures and television. He was employed by NBC as a camera person and was one of the few Black cameramen in the 1960’s and 1970’s. Richie served two year in the United States Army and served 6 months in Vietnam War as a part of his Army tour. Richie traveled in many parts of the world with NBC. His most memorable duty was filming a documentary in Yugoslavia. NBC earned an Emmy for that documentary. He loved the entertainment field. He promoted many dances in Manhattan and Staten Island. He was a member of The Bachelors Club, The Brown Bombers and the Richmond District 369th Veterans Association. He was baptized in St. Philips Baptist Church in Port Richmond in 1952. He leaves to mourn his sister Barbara Wood Christopher, 2 nephews Mark and David Christopher, a niece Allison Christopher, a cousin, Pamela Thompson-Polk and other relatives and friends. Family will receive family and friends on Friday, February 8, 2019 from 2-4 and 7-9. Funeral service will be Saturday, February 9, 2019 at 10 am at the Harmon Funeral Home 571 Forest Avenue Staten Island, NY 10310
