
Alvin was born June 29, 1927 in Bulloch County at Register, GA. He was an U. S. Army veteran of World War II and was assigned to the Headquarters Company, U. S. Forces in Vienna, Austria and served as overseer for General Mark Clark’s estate while he was in Vienna. Alvin was later assigned to Headquarters Rear in Salzburg, Austria, as the only military policeman in his company. He returned home to attend Veteran’s School and worked on his farm while working for the T. J. Morris Company. After leaving the T. J. Morris Company, Alvin began working at Georgia Southern College, retiring one day before the college became a university. Alvin was a believer in Jesus Christ, attending churches here and while living in the North Georgia mountains. Alvin was an avid photographer taking many pictures to document his travels and once took a photo of a moose charging at him in Yellowstone Park. Alvin researched and compiled 21 books on his family’s history and genealogy along with several other books. Alvin loved fishing, especially with his children and grandchildren and very much enjoyed walking the nature trails he had made with his family and friends. Mr. Donaldson was preceded in death by his parents, J. Walter Donaldson and Leila Sammons Donaldson, brothers, J.W. Donaldson, Floyd Donaldson and Clyde Donaldson; sister, Betty Kea; daughter, Carolyn Donaldson and his step-grandson, Andrew Dunay.
Mr. Donaldson is survived by his wife of 48 years, Dorothy Tyson Donald; son, Charles Donaldson and his wife, Jane; grandson, Carl Donaldson and his wife, Tonya; great-grandchildren, Edona and Alana Donaldson; step-daughter, Julie Dunay and her husband, Bob; step-granddaughters, Megan Dunay and Caroline Harvey and her husband, Dave; step great-grandson, Ethan Harvey and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends 4:00 to 6:00 PM Wednesday, November 4, 2015 in Hodges-Moore Funeral Home.
A graveside funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, November 5, 2015 in Bethlehem Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery with Pastor Charles Donaldson officiating.
