Mrs. Bonnie M. McElveen, age 88, died Wednesday at East Georgia Regional Medical Center. She was a longtime resident of Bulloch County and retired from the Social Security Administration after many years of service. Mrs. McElveen loved gardening, reading, and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a former member of the Brooklet First Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, William “Bill” McElveen, a son, David C. McElveen, two brothers, four sisters, and a granddaughter, Melissa L. Wassing.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Ted Hughes of Walterboro, SC, and Lisa and Jeff Ramsey of Brooklet; one sister, Helen Herndon of Waycross, GA; three grandchildren, Candice (Jeff) Grant, Christy (Mark) Bowen, and Gregory Ronald (Stephanie) Keel; step-grandson, Shannon (Kathy) Ramsey; six great grandchildren, Mara Alexandria Wassing, Rebecca Lynn Grant, Ashlyn and Jordan Ramsey, and Matthew and Jason Bowen.
Visitation for Mrs. McElveen will be held Saturday from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. at Hodges-Moore Funeral Home.
Graveside services will be held Sunday at 3:00 P.M. at Bulloch Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Ogeechee Area Hospice, P.O. Box 531, Statesboro, GA 30459.
