

Mrs. Akins was a native of Charleston, SC and lived most of her life in Bulloch County and Statesboro. Eleanor was a graduate of Middleground School and work many years as a waitress at Mrs. Bryant’s Kitchen. She retired from Georgia Southern University, where she worked in the Food Services Department and also retired after 40 years of service from Forest Heights Country Club, where she was a hostess and worked until she was 98 years old. She was a member of Statesboro First Baptist Church where she was an active member of the Steadfast-Dorcas Sunday school class and the WMU and was also a charter member of Middleground Homemaker’s Club, in which she was a member for over 50 years. Eleanor was a recipient of the Dean Day Smith Award and was also named State Homemaker of the Year with the State of Georgia’s Homemaker’s Club. She was preceded in death by her parents, Adolphus and Willie Beasley Parker, her husband, Brooks Leroy Akins and her son-in-law, Edmond A. Kubiak, Jr.
Mrs. Akins is survived by her daughters, Edwina Akins Kubiak and Mary Claudette Akins both of Savannah.
The family will receive friends 4:00 to 7:00 PM Tuesday, November 11, 2014 in Hodges-Moore Funeral Home.
Funeral service will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, November 12, 2014 in Statesboro First Baptist Church with Reverend Dr. H. William Perry officiating.
Burial will be in Upper Mill Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
