Florence Eileen Coleman

Florence Childrey Coleman, age 98, passed away Monday, December 25th in her residence under the care of Ogeechee Area Hospice surrounded by her loving family.

Mrs. Coleman was born in Richmond, VA, to the late Charles Calvin and Florence Elizabeth Bailey Childrey and attended local schools there. Florence married Troy Coleman, who worked with the FBI and during WWII, while he was overseas, she filled in at the FBI working as a code breaker and serving as an office manager. In the early 1960’s, she and Troy moved to Savannah and lived there until moving to Claxton in 2011. While in Savannah, she was a homemaker and was a member of Hull Presbyterian Church and then joined Independent Presbyterian Church. Florence served as a bible study leader at both churches and was a very active member in all aspects of these churches.

In addition to her parents and husband, Florence was preceded in death by two sons, Ronald Coleman and Gary Coleman; daughter, Judith Ann Coleman and sister, Helen Fiveash.

Mrs. Coleman is survived by her grandchildren, Pastor Matthew Coleman and his wife, Jessica of Savannah; Heidi Coleman of Butner, NC; Rachel Charfauros and her husband, Vince of Hopkins, SC; Noel Coleman and his wife, Cherie of Cumming, GA and Sara Newman and her husband, Timothy of Register; great-grandchildren, Emily, Tanner and Samuel Thompson, Eleanor Coleman, Isabella Newman, Caleb, Logan and Mason Coleman and Niah Charfauros.

A gathering of family and friend will be held 10:30 am to 11:15 am Friday, December 29th in Hodges-Moore Funeral Home.

A graveside funeral service and burial will be held 2:00 PM Friday, December 29th in Hillcrest Abbey East Cemetery, in Savannah, with Reverend Ron Parrish and Pastor Matthew Coleman officiating.
