

Mr. Curlin was born in Union City, Tennessee and had lived in Statesboro since 1961. He attended the University of Florida, where he was on the swim team, graduated from the Georgia Institute of Technology with a degree in science and architecture and was a member of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity. Fred was stationed in England during World War II serving in the 8th Army Air Corps obtaining the rank of sergeant, he also served as a Lieutenant in the Georgia National Guard, where he was a paratrooper. Mr. Curlin owned and operated Fred H. Curlin and Associates Architects, AIA for many years and was a member of First Baptist Church of Statesboro. He was a member of the Savannah Daylily Club, the Hemerocallis Society and served as the official starter for the Statesboro Swim Team, during the 1970’s. Fred worked for 15 years in the Civil Engineering Department, at Fort Stewart and was an Associate Professor at Georgia Southern University, where he taught homebuilding. Mr. Curlin was an avid Georgia Southern Football fan and was a member of the Southern Boosters. He loved food and cooking and was featured in Southern Living for his cooking abilities. Fred was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Ruby Curlin of Tampa, FL; his sister, Esther Shearouse and his loving and devoted wife, Elizabeth Harrison Curlin.
Mr. Curlin is survived by three sons, Frederick Harold “Rick” Curlin, Jr. and his wife, Bridget of New Bern, NC; Michael H. Curlin and his wife, Deborah of Statesboro and Patrick D. Curlin of Register; brother-in-law, Rev. Tom Harrison of Bartow, GA; three grandchildren, Elizabeth Christina Curlin of Clayton, NC; Sarah Louise Curlin of San Francisco, CA and Amanda Leigh Curlin of Chapel Hill, NC; special caregiver, Brenda Watts of Statesboro; several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friend 10:00 to 11:00 AM Saturday, October 17, 2015 in Hodges-Moore Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, October 17, 2015 in the Chapel of Hodges-Moore Funeral Home with the Reverend Tom Harrison officiating. Burial will be in Eastside Cemetery.
