

Hal Coleman Waters, Sr., 83, passed away Monday, November 18, surrounded by his family at East Georgia Regional Medical Center.
The Fulton county native, moved to Statesboro as a child, and graduated from Statesboro High School. He attended Georgia Military College in Milledgeville before transferring to the University of Georgia, where he graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business. He was a member of the Glee Club, and after graduation he served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, and attained the rank of Tech Sergeant. Returning home, he began working with his family at L.A. Waters Furniture and soon began his own business, Statesboro Transfer and Storage, Inc. Mr. Waters was a member of Statesboro First United Methodist Church, where he as a member of, and taught, the Crusaders Sunday school class and sang in the choir. He was also a member of the Statesboro Rotary Club, Sigma Chi Fraternity, and The Gideon’s International. Hal was preceded in death by his parents, Loy Anthony Waters, Sr. and Ruth Coleman Waters, and his sister, Ann Waters Satcher.
Mr. Waters is survived by his wife of 63 years, Shirley Walters Waters, Statesboro; 4 sons, Hal Coleman “Cole” Waters Jr. and his wife, Katrina of Dublin; Harry Leonard “Len” Waters and his wife, Debbie of Statesboro; Adam Scott Waters and his wife, Cynthia of Statesboro, and John Edward Waters and his wife, Angie of Chattanooga, TN, daughter, Elizabeth “Beth” Waters DiPalma and her husband, Frank of Atlanta, brother, L. A. “Si” Waters, Jr. and his wife, Ida of Statesboro, 11 Grandchildren (Allison, Trey, Brett, Kim, Harry, Elise, Anna Marie, Ryan, Ross, Mitchell, and Matthew), 3 Great Grandchildren (Alyssa Naomi, Joshua, and Camden), several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends 4:00 to 6:00 PM Wednesday, November 20 in Hodges-Moore Funeral Home.
Funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, November 21 in Statesboro First United Methodist Church, with the Reverend Jimmy Cason officiating.
Burial will be at Eastside Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Trey Waters, Ryan Waters, Ross Waters, Harry Waters, Brett Waters, Mitchell Waters and Matthew Waters.
