
Huston was born in Taylorsville to the late T. J. and Eva Waddell Costlow and graduated from Taylorsville High School, in 1954, turning down a basketball scholarship to Brewton-Parker College to stay at home and marry his high school sweetheart, Alma. They were married for 48 years until she passed away on November 24th, 2002. Huston moved to Statesboro from Cartersville, in 1975, to become the District Manager of Liberty National, where he worked until his retirement. Upon arriving in Statesboro, he became a member of Eastern Heights Baptist Church, serving as a deacon and singing tenor in the church choir. He also taught Sunday school and served as pitcher on the church softball team for many years. He then became a member of Temple Baptist Church and served as a deacon and on the finance committee. After the death of his first wife, he met and married Ramona Miller and joined Friendship Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher and was an active member there until his death. After his retirement from Liberty National, Huston became the owner and operator of Eagle Tours Inc. and drove the Georgia Southern University Eagle Women’s Basketball team and the Georgia Southern University Men’s Baseball team for many years.
Mr. Costlow had been a member of the Statesboro Kiwanis Club since November of 1975, served as President in 1982-1983; received the Hixson Award in 2001 and had perfect attendance for eight years. He also served as the Assisting Secretary and Lead Umpire for the Statesboro Officials Association for over 20 years, umpiring softball and baseball in several region and state playoff and championship games. Huston was an avid golfer and loved to fly his plane and was devoted to God, his wife, his family and his friends.
Mr. Costlow is survived his wife, Ramona Miller Costlow; children, Jim Costlow and his wife, Gigi, Bobby Costlow and his wife, Sherril, Debbie Cartee and her husband, Steve; step-sons, Tracy Miller, Wayne Miller and Randy Linto; brother, Alton Costlow; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
A gathering of family and friends will be held 1:30 to 3:00 PM Wednesday, July 5, 2017 in Hodges-Moore Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM Wednesday in the chapel of Hodges-Moore Funeral Home with Reverends Tom Osborne and Don Paterson officiating.
The burial will follow in Bulloch Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Brandon Costlow, TJ Costlow, Bryce Costlow and Michael Holsonback.
Members of Statesboro Kiwanis and Rusty Cram will serve as honorary pallbearers.
