

Jewell Priscilla Sowell Dyches-Floyd
March 4, 1021 – June 21, 2014
Jewell Dyches-Floyd, age 93, of Statesboro, Georgia, was a beloved and admired woman of God called to her heavenly home on June 21, 2014. Jewell was with her daughter and care provider, Marsha Boyd, of Newnan.
Jewell was born March 4, 1921, in Screven County to Robert Cleveland, Sr., and Willie Mae Bragg Sowell. Jewell grew up in Candler County. She and Cardell Dyches married on December 23, 1939. She was a homemaker most of her life. Jewell was a member of New Hope United Methodist Church, Statesboro since 1962 where she taught Sunday School., served as President of United Methodist Women, Flower and Usher Coordinator and enjoyed singing in the choir. Mrs. Dyches-Floyd was past president of PTA at Pooler Elementary, Brooklet Elementary and Southeast Bulloch High School. She was Chairman of the Farm Bureau Women’s Committee, Bulloch County, for 18 years. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star and served as Worthy Matron of Richard T. Turner Lodge, Pooler,
Georgia.
Jewell was predeceased by her parents, husband of 59 years, Cardell Dyches, second husband, Clyde Floyd, and sisters Lula Mae Miles and Dora Lee Bruner. She was survived by sons Andy (Claire) and David (Carol) Dyches, Statesboro, and daughter Marsha Boyd, Newnan; seven grandchildren, Shelly Waters, Newnan; Mike (Christine) Gibbons, Rincon; Caren Ann (Corey) Nunnally, Auburn, Georgia; Jason (Angel) Dyches, Statesboro; David Dyches, II, Statesboro; Catharine (Michael) Thigpen, Lyons, Georgia; Hannah Boyd, Athens, Georgia; six great grandchildren, MacKenzie and MaKayla Waters, Ben and Chelsea Nunnally, Brooke Dyches and Julianne Thigpen; brothers, Reverend Robert C. Sowell, Jr., Hot Springs, Arkansas, and W. R. Sowell, Sylvania; sisters, Brenda (Uhl) Boss, Manito, Illinois; Geneva (John) Alladio, Pearce, Arizona; Betty Vaughan (Don Schoonover), Darien and Dorothy (Lewis) Cowart, Twin City and numerous nieces and nephew.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, June 24, 2014, from 5-8 p.m. at Hodges-Moore Funeral Home, 22757 Highway 80 East, Statesboro, Georgia. Reverends Stephanie Smith and Rodney Pittman will conduct services on Wednesday, June 25, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at New Hope UMC, 9623 Georgia Highway 24, Statesboro, Georgia 30461. Jewell will lie in state one hour prior to the funeral. Interment will follow at the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be: Mike Gibbons, Jason Dyches, David Dyches, II, Michael Thigpen, Josh Sheffield, and Erv Bordner.
