Jimmy Wayne “Bubba” Smith, age 61, passed away Saturday, May 19, 2018 at his residence after a short illness.
Mr. Smith was born Savannah and lived his early years in Bloomingdale, before moving with his family to Brooklet and graduated from Southeast Bulloch High School in 1974. After high school, Bubba worked as a professional wrestler and wrestled as one of the Assassin’s. Bubba then became employed with the Bulloch County Department of Corrections, where he had worked for the past 32 years and had served as Deputy Warden for the past 12 years. He was a member of Harville Baptist Church, was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved to take cruises, but he most enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, who called him “papa”.
Bubba was preceded in death by his parents, Wilton and Sally Smith.
Bubba is survived by his wife of 41 years, Mary K. Smith of Brooklet; son, Jason Smith and wife, Brandice of Brooklet; grandchildren, Jason Smith, Jr., Hunter Smith and Savanna Smith all of Brooklet; sisters-in-law, Joyce Johnson of Ellijay and Betty Ann Edwards of Savannah; brother-in-law, Ricky Kendrick of Pembroke; several nieces and nephews.
A gathering of family and friends will be held 5:00 to 8:00 PM Tuesday, May 22, 2018 in Hodges-Moore Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, May 23, 2018, in the chapel of Hodges-Moore Funeral Home with Reverend Dan Joyner and Lawrence Butler officiating.
Burial will follow in Harville Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Chris Hill, Mitch Johnson, Mikey Watkins, Chris Mock, Bobby Webb, Jamie Smith and Bobby Kendrick.
Honorary pallbearers will be employees of the Bulloch County Corrections Institute and Bulloch County Public Works.
