
John was the former owner of Playland in the Statesboro Mall and retired with 27 years of service as a Meat Inspector with the Georgia Department of Agriculture. He was a member of Statesboro First Baptist Church, where he was a member of the Open Door Sunday School Class and served on several committees and was a former deacon. John was preceded in death by his parents Lonnie and Mattie Bell Flake, his sister, Dorothy Flake Melton and his brother, Richard Flake.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Juanita; sons, Jeffery Flake and his wife Kris of Griffin and Dwayne Flake and his wife, Chanone of Westminster, CO; daughter, Maria Bolton and her husband Floyd of Clarksville, TN. Grandchildren, Amanda (Gary), Corey, Courtney (Jason) and Seth; three step-grandchildren, Brett, Andrew and Erin and 1 great granddaughter, Ashtyn.
The family will receive friends 4:00 to 6:00 PM Saturday, November 15th in Hodges-Moore Funeral Home.
Funeral service will be held 2:30 PM Sunday, November 16th in the Chapel of Hodges-Moore Funeral Home with the Dr. John Water and Dr. H. William Perry officiating.
Burial will be in Middleground Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
Honorary pallbearers will be Georgia Department of Agriculture Employees, Statesboro First Baptist Church, Open Door Sunday School Class and the Statesboro High School Class of 1957.
