Hodges-Moore Funeral Home
Mr. John Michael Jones, 61, died early Tuesday morning, at home, while holding the hand of his wife, Jo. John was born on July 21, 1952 in Statesboro, Ga. He was the son of the late Johnny T. Jones and Sue Nell Hendrix Jones.
John was a graduate of Screven County High School and a member of the Army National Guard. He worked honestly and tirelessly to build his very successful commercial and residential paint contracting business, Jones Painting, of which he was very proud. John was a very unassuming man, gentle in spirit, tender hearted, with a smile that would make his wife's heart flutter, a laugh that would make her giggle and a sense of humor that would cause her belly to hurt. John loved his family. As a farmer for over 20 years -- alongside his dad and brother -- John loved working the land. He continued to plant a garden every year, even after he stopped farming. He said once it was in your blood, you couldn't get away from it. John loved his dogs, Felix, a Scottish Terrier and Annie, a Craigslist, wannabe Chihuahua, who had him wrapped around her little paw. But mostly, John simply loved being at home, piddling around outside, riding his John Deere tractor and Zero Turn mower and spending time with his wife. John is already missed.
John is survived by his wife, Jo Jones; one brother, Tony Jones, of Cocoa, Fla.; one sister, Carol Sue Deloach, of Sylvania, Ga.; two nephews, William Douglas "Buddy" Bell, Jr., of Sylvania Ga., and Shaun Jones, of Cocoa, Fla., and a niece, Shaina Jones, of Rockledge, Fla.
A Celebration of Life service will be held for John Thursday, August 8 at 6 p.m. in the chapel of Hodges-Moore Funeral Home.
