It was so good to be with Jo Jo at our LAB RAT REUNION IN Sept. 2012.  He was always playing a trick or two.  So glad I was able to share some laughs with Joe.  May he rest in peace.  I really enjoyed the boiled peanuts that he shared with all last Sept. (LHS 1965)

"JO JO - Peace to you and yours".  I had the unique experience of growing up in the sawmill town of Bellamy, AL. The Joe & Sissy Watkins family were fine people, that worked hard, raised a family, and were very special to me.  To those of us that remember those 'glory days' of horseback riding, swimming, attending a 'little red school house - & Miss Hood", just being kids, riding the "CC roads" to the old wooden fire tower, the picture show, going barefoot all summer, the smell of fresh cut lumber, the ever present sounds of saws & whistles, the locomotive, Miss Palmer at the hospital, deer hunts, BBQ's, the Commissary & ice house......too many to list but those who lived it -remember it always.
I had so much fun with you JO JO at the Lab Rat Reunion that Friday Night and on Saturday - just reliving the life few remember or ever experience......I thank God that we shared a dance, sang along with the band...seemed as though life picked up where it left off & that is a good thing!

So sorry to hear of Jo Jo's death.  Enjoyed seeing him at the Lab Rat Reunion in Livingston last yr.  I know he will be missed.

Joe was a good man !  Have known him since high school.  Stopped in Statesboro 2 months back, talked for nearly two hours.  Same person then he was in school.  Did not know until just now that he is gone.  So sorry for your loss and the loss of my friend of 45 years.

Kathy, we are thinking of you during this very difficult time. We were so shocked to hear of Joe's passing.  You have our deepest sympathies and love.

We will miss you, Joe. The kids knew you as their Papa Joe for longer than they got to know my own father. Thank you for loving them so much. Ethan, Kaleb, and you fishing buddy, Hannah, will always remember you in love. Thank you, as well, for loving my mother when she needed someone to help her through the heartbreak of losing my father. She will always love you as she does him.

Sorry for your loss Lisa. t is very hard to lose a parent. Just know he is in better place and will suffer no more.

Our family was so saddened to hear about the passing of Mr. Joe. We are thankful that we knew him as long as we did and I know that he is going to be missed by so many. He was such a good hearted person and such a joy to be around. We will always miss you Mr. Joe but will never forget you as your memories will live on through us forever. We love you !

Joe, you were a cantankerous old goat. You will definitely be missed. I will have a cold one in your honor.

We have been doing business with Joe for more than 20 years and in that time became friends. He always dealt with us squarely and he was one of the genuine nice guys in the lumber business. He was a pleasure to call on and will be sorely missed. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family, friends and co-workers.
