Elder Maurice Riner, age 89, passed away Thursday morning at his daughters residence under the care of Ogeechee Area Hospice. He was born in Wrightsville, Ga. and was a Combat Veteran of the United States Navy serving during World War II. He was ordained as a Primitive Baptist Minister over 60 years ago. Elder Riner pastored many churches in the areas of Garden City, Savannah, Tifton, and Fitzgerald. He was a member of Sturgeon Creek Primitive Baptist Church in Fitzgerald. He was preceded in death by his daughters, JoAnn Riner Ryals and Pamela Jane Riner.
Survivors include his wife, Trudy Riner of Statesboro; his children, Donald Clyde Riner of Ocilla, Earl Bruce Riner of Tifton, Beverly Riner (H. Ray) Long of Statesboro, and James Randall (Renee) Riner of Monroe; four grandchildren, Marcy Sanders, Jessica Sandow, Emily Sandow, and Bryan Riner; and five great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Monday from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. at Hodges-Moore Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be held Tuesday at 2:00 P.M. at Cedar Creek Primitive Baptist Church in Collins, Ga.
The body will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the funeral service.
Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Honorary pallbearers will be all Primitive Baptist Elders and their spouses.
