Ralph E. Cowart Sr.

Ralph E. Cowart Sr., 59, of Augusta, GA passed away Monday, May 18th, 2015, under the care of Ogeechee Area Hospice in Statesboro, GA.

Mr. Cowart was a Master Marine Mechanic for more than 30 years. He along with his father owned and operated Cowart Boat Works at Clarke Hill, GA for many years and at age 40 he graduated with President’s honors from Marine Mechanics Institute. Mr. Cowart was the senior mechanic for Gasparilla Marina in Boca Grande, FL for several years. During his time there he was mechanic to many movie stars and known for his ability to fix anything.

Ralph was the fourth of five children born to Joe D. & Elizabeth M. Cowart Peavy. He was a devoted and loyal friend and enjoyed his family and his grandchildren immensely. He loved the outdoors especially boating, fishing, and the beach. He will be remembered for his love of a good joke and his hearty laugh. Mr. Cowart was preceded in death by his parents, his step father, John H. Peavy and a brother-in-law, Jimmy Stapleton.

Mr. Cowart is survived by a son, Ralph E. Cowart Jr. (Alan) of Statesboro, GA; two daughters, Cynthia N. Hixon of Augusta, GA, Tabitha (Kenny) Marko of Port Charlotte, FL; his faithful and loving companion, Jenny Cowart of Augusta, GA.; six grandchildren Brandon, Devin, Danielle, Harley, & Baelee all of Augusta and Paige Marko of Port Charlotte FL; two brothers, Ronald (Becky) Cowart of Blythe, GA, Joe D. Cowart Jr. (Kim) of Augusta, GA; four sisters, Carolyn Stapleton of Adrian, GA, Betty ( Bill) Anderson of Augusta, GA, Mary Ann Cleveland of Milledgeville, GA, and Leigh Cowart of Maryland. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, May, 19, 2015 from 5:00 until 7:00 PM at Hodges-Moore Funeral Home.

Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, May 20, 2015 at 11:00 AM in the Chapel of Hodges-Moore Funeral Home with the Rev. Brian Cowart officiating.

Burial will follow in the Gumlog Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Emanuel County.

Pallbearers will be Joe D. Cowart Jr, Bruce Cowart, Philip Miles, Christopher Cowart, Kenny Marko, Ronnie Cowart Jr.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Ogeechee Area Hospice, P.O. Box 531, Statesboro, GA 30459.
