He was born in Elkin, NC on January 8, 1947, and was the son of Lois Baity Gibson and the late William Glenn Shoemaker. He was a retired mechanic with Kosa.
He was survived by his wife, Kathryn Jester Shoemaker; a son, Kevin Glenn Shoemaker of Hickory; a daughter, Donna Gwen Lewis (Don) of Hiddenite; four sisters, Brenda Keller (Michael), Alice Jordan and Cindy Welborn (Timmy) all of Statesville, and
Deborah Prevette (Doug) of Olin; four grandchildren, Steele and Pria Shoemaker and Trinity and Love Lewis; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial service celebrating Shorty's life will be held 5:00 PM Thursday, February 7, 2013, at Fairview Baptist Church with the Rev. Scott Eanes officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday one hour prior to the service at the church.
A private interment will take place at a later date.
