
He was born September 6, 1926, in Iredell County, and was the son of the late Ernest Lee and Sarah Drye Bowles. He retired from the drapery department of J.C. Penney Distribution Center and was a member of Lighthouse Independent Methodist Church. He was a man of God who loved the Lord, was an avid gardener and enjoyed playing the organ and piano.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death on July 18, 1978, by his first wife, Johnsie Harris Bowles; a brother, Donald F. Bowles; and two sisters, Mildred Bowles Clark and Ruth Vaughn Bowles.
He is survived by his wife, Peggy Gabriel Bowles, whom he married on July 10, 1982; a son, Vaughn (Lorene) Bowles; a daughter, Carla Upright; two grandchildren, Ryan Jones and Jessica Gasper; a brother, Roy Bowles all of Statesville; and two nieces.
Funeral services celebrating Alfred’s life will be held at 3:00 PM Saturday, March 2, 2013, at Lighthouse Independent Methodist Church with the Rev. Mike Kilpatrick and the Rev. Bill Pharr officiating. Burial will follow at Iredell Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 3:00 PM Saturday at the church prior to the service.
