Benny Hugh Haithcox 83, of 150 Kiser Lane, died Wednesday June 12, 2013 at the North Carolina Veterans Home in Salisbury. He was born May 8, 1930 in Iredell County, the son of the late William Hugh Haithcox and Lula Estelle Bell Haithcox. He served in the U. S. Army and was Circulation Manager for the Statesville Record and Landmark. He was married to Donnie Mae Holdsclaw Haithcox who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by brothers, Fred Haithcox and James Haithcox.
Benny was a very active member of Chapel Hill United Methodist Church, where he was a Sunday school teacher, choir member and had served on numerous committees. He was a ‘handyman’ for the church and congregation. He was a member of the Wayside Volunteer Fire Department; and enjoyed gardening.
He is survived by a son, Randy Haithcox (Barbara) and daughters, Amanda Penman (Gordon) and Christie Haithcox all of Statesville and Sandra Marlowe (Tim) of Harmony. Sibilings surviving are Roy Lee Haithcox and Nancy Davidson both of Statesville, Tommy Haithcox and Rachel Holland both of Olin. Also surviving is a special friend, Mildred Price of Statesville.
Services celebrating Benny’s life will be held on Monday, June 17th at 11 a.m. in the Chapel Hill United Methodist Church. The body will lie in state from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. in the church fellowship hall. Rev. Diane Lawhorne and Rev. Ralph Lepley will be in charge of the service. Burial will follow at Iredell Memorial Gardens where full military honors will be accorded by the Iredell County Veterans Association Burial Detail.
