Betty Jane Walker Mitchell

Betty was born the daughter of the late Robert Harrison Walker and Minnie Mae Becton Walker on September 22, 1940 in Mobile, Alabama. Betty was a longtime member of East Side Baptist Church. She was retired from International Paper, and was active in the ABWA as well as the BPW. Betty enjoyed traveling to the beach and to the mountains. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Betty will be greatly missed.

Along with her parents, Betty is preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Lowell Mitchell; and two brothers, Mallard and Scott Walker

Those left behind to cherish Betty’s memory include a daughter, Sondra M. Koenig (Eddie Mitchell) of Statesville; a son, Robert L. Mitchell (Tammy) of Union Grove; five grandchildren, Joshua Koenig, Cole Koenig, Brooks Koenig, Casey Mitchell and Jacob Mitchell; a brother, Foster Walker of Statesville; and a sister-in-law, Lounell Grant (Ken) of Mooresville.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, September 11, 2015 at East Side Baptist Church with the Reverends Charles Cook and Johnny Bolin officiating. Interment will follow in Grassy Knob Baptist Church Cemetery in Union Grove. The family will receive friends on Thursday, September 10, 2015 from 6:30 to 8:30 PM at Bunch-Johnson Funeral home.
