

Miss Betty Lou Kilpatrick of Statesville, passed away on Wednesday August 3, 2011 at the Gordon Hospice House. Born on October 4, 1928 in Stony Point, she was a daughter of the late George Lee and Grace Harris Kilpatrick. She leaves to cherish her memory a sister, Margaret Lee Kilpatrick, an aunt, Lillian Motto, several cousins, friends and neighbors.
She graduated from Statesville High School in 1945. She was employed by Bell Telephone Co. for a short time then joined her sister in Washington, D.C. where she worked for the U.S. Government for a while. She later accepted a position with Remington Rand as an Executive Secretary. She retired from that company, which by then was Unisys, a computer company.
She was a member of Front Street Baptist Church, having belonged there since childhood. As a child and a young adult, she sang in the church choir, attended Sunday School and Baptist Training Union. Betty had a beautiful voice and in Washington she belonged to a choral group for years. She enjoyed ballroom dancing and trips to New York to see Broadway plays. She also came home often to visit her parents and relatives.
Services celebrating her life will be conducted at 2:30 P.M. Sunday at Front Street Baptist Church with Rev. Tim Stutts and Rev. Marvin Boyer officiating. She will lie in state and the family will greet griends for thirty minutes prior to the service in the church sanctuary. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.
