

Mrs. Betty Cooke Stroud, 80, of 412 Westminster Drive, Statesville, died Sunday morning at her home. Born in Southern Pines on October 9, 1933, she was a daughter of the late James H. Cooke and Lillie Hasty Cooke. Betty formerly worked at the Iredell County Tax Collections Office and dearly loved animals and enjoyed working in the garden and fishing. She was a graduate of Aberdeen High School. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers: Robert James Cooke, Horace Crawford Cooke, Gaddy Lee Cooke and J. D. Cooke, and sisters: Ina May Wilks and Sara Hayes.
Survivors include her husband, Larry L. Stroud of the home, two daughters, Angie Wood (Jeff) of Statesville and Sonya Brown of Stony Point along with her cat Bubba Sue and two dogs. Also surviving are grandchildren: Brandon Lee Brown, Matthew Allen Brown, Jacob Michael Brown and Payton Noelle Wood along with two nieces: Janet Lee Hamlett and Sharon H. Honeycutt.
Services celebrating Betty's life will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday at the Westmoreland Chapel of Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home with Rev. J. C. Parks and Rev. John Parks officiating. Burial will follow at Iredell Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be: Jeff Wood, Brandon Brown, Matthew Brown, Bill Johnson, David Smith and Gary Call. The family will be assembled at the residence of the deceased and will receive friends from 7:00 until 9:00 P.M. Tuesday at Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home.
