Statesville-Ms. Betty Jean Simons Young, 87 of Statesville, passed away on Friday, February 23, 2018 at Davis Regional Medical Center. Born on August 18, 1930 in Iredell County, she was the daughter of the late Eugene Bradley and Lola Belle Moore Simons.

A graduate of Statesville High School, she attended Mitchell Community College. Betty was crowned Miss Statesville in the late 1940s. She retired after many years as a decorator/designer for Sherwin Williams.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Hobart Augustus Young, her brother Robert Monroe Simons and her great grandson, Greyson Aric Eichenblat.

Those left to cherish her memory are her children, son Bradley Young (Gina) and daughter Susan Manginelli as well as brother James Brandon Simons (Cathy), sister Mary Jane Simons, sister-in-law Evelyn Simons, grandchildren Siobhan Marie Eichenblat (Aric), Nicole Leigh Young and Cole Simons Young, and great grandson Riley Conrad Eichenblat. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be on Saturday, March 3, 2018 at Bunch Johnson Funeral Home in Statesville from 2:00 until 3:00 pm, with memorial service to follow at 3:00 also at the funeral home. A private burial will be scheduled at a later date.
