Mr. Billy Caldwell Overcash, 79, of Statesville, went home to be with his Lord on Friday, July 12, 2013, after an extended illness. He was born July 25, 1933, in Iredell County and was a son of the late Fred C. and Margaret Ketchie Overcash. Bill served in the U.S. Marine Corps for 15 years during the Korean Conflict, during the Viet Nam Era and as a peacetime veteran. GYSGT Billy C. Overcash was the recipient of many medals during that time, including the Purple Heart. He enjoyed sharing many stories about his experience as a Drill Instructor and felt it was an honor to serve his country as a Marine -- "Once a Marine, always a Marine". He was a Maintenance Superintendent at Reeves Brothers, Inc. for 13 years, and then retired from Grief Brothers in Charlotte, N.C. Bill was a member of East Side Baptist Church and loved his "church family" very much. He loved his family and was proud of his children and grandchildren and their accomplishments in life. He loved to help others and was a quiet man, yet was a strict disciplinarian. His dedication to his Lord and Savior was very evident. He will be truly missed by those who loved and respected him. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Jerry Scott Overcash; three brothers and three sisters. Bill is survived by his wife, of 39 years, Barbara McDaniel Overcash; his children, Craig Overcash (Marilyn), Terry Overcash (Kathy), Debbie White (Dale), Melissa Beaver(Andy), Sabrina H. Young (Mark) and Gary Howie; thirteen grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two brothers, Max Overcash (Mary) and Homer Overcash; and three sisters, Betty O. Bentley, Patricia O. Morrow and Nellie O. Johnson. Visitation will be fom 6:30 until 8:30 PM Monday, July 15, 2013, at East Side Baptist Church. Memorial services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Tuesday, July 16, 2013, at the church with Pastor Johnny Bolin, the Rev. John Parks, the Rev. J. C. Parks and Joel Arnold officiating. Interment will be private. Condolences may be sent online to the family at www.bunchjohnsonfuneralhome.com. Memorials may be given to East Side Baptist Church, 310 East Side Drive, Statesville, NC 28677. Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements.
