He was born July 25, 1933, in Iredell County and was a son of the late Fred C. and Margaret Ketchie Overcash. Bill served in the U.S. Marine Corps for 15 years during the Korean Conflict, during the Viet Nam Era and as a peacetime veteran. GYSGT Billy C. Overcash was the recipient of many medals during that time, including the Purple Heart. He enjoyed sharing many stories about his experience as a Drill Instructor and felt it was an honor to serve his country as a Marine -- "Once a Marine, always a Marine". He was a Maintenance Superintendent at Reeves Brothers, Inc. for 13 years, and then retired from Grief Brothers in Charlotte, N.C. Bill was a member of East Side Baptist Church and loved his "church family" very much. He loved his family and was proud of his children and grandchildren and their accomplishments in life. He loved to help others and was a quiet man, yet was a strict disciplinarian. His dedication to his Lord and Savior was very evident. He will be truly missed by those who loved and respected him.
