He was born July 22, 1933, in Iredell County and was the son of the late Charles Blake and Leola Summers Waugh. He was a U.S. Navy veteran during the Korean Conflict. He was a truck driver and retired from Statesville Auto Auction as a car hauler driver, and he had also worked in construction and with anything mechanical. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and outdoorsman. He enjoyed working in his shop and was referred to as the original MacGuyver because he could always make something out whatever he had. He was dearly loved by all, always had a smile and always had a joke to share.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Glenn, Roy and David Waugh.
He is survived by his wife, Alice Cartner Waugh, whom he married on March 3, 1976; two sons, Dennis Ray Waugh (Masha) of Manhattan, IL, and Jessie Waugh of Troutman; three grandchildren, Jamie Lynn Waugh of Wilmington, Tara Black (Myron) of Cornelius, and Anna Maria Waugh of Manhattan, IL; three great-grandchildren, Tristan and Justyn Black and Krystan Waugh; and a sister, Elizabeth Hoyle (Bob) of Punta Gorda, FL.
