

Born June 23, 1933 in Rowan County, North Carolina, he was the son of the late George and Naomi Benson Steele. Carl was a lifelong member of South River United Methodist Church where he served as a Sunday school teacher and on various committees. He graduated from Woodleaf High School and attended Columbia Bible College. Carl also served in the US Army. Prior to his illness he was a passionate farmer and volunteer of Scotch Irish Fire Dept. He retired from Duke Power Marshall Steam Station.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by a daughter, Myra Steele McCachren; a brother, Billy Steele and two sisters, Dorothy Steele Campbell and Helen Lee Steele.
Left to cherish his memories are his loving wife of 60 years, Frances Anderson Steele; children, Wesley G. (Robinette) Steele and Linda Steele (Larry) Cranford; son-in-law, Jon McCachren; grandchildren, Kristen McCachren (Justin) Raymer, Cari McCachren, Laura Cranford (Chris) Mabry, Aaron Cranford, Laiton Steele, Mary McCachren, and Allison Cranford; great-grandchildren, Fiona and Whitaker Raymer and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Carl's Life will be held on Thursday, July 14, 2016 at 2pm at South River United Methodist Church in Woodleaf with Pastors Randy Powell and Tom Mabry officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Carl will lie in state at the church from 1:30 pm -2 pm prior to the service.
The family will receive friends following the graveside service at the church.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the South River United Methodist Church Preschool, 2880 South River Church Road, Woodleaf, NC 27054.
