Mrs. Carolyn Miller Black, 84, of 197 Jane Sowers Rd. Statesville, died Monday January 21, 2013 at the Gordon Hospice House. Born in Iredell County on April 11, 1928, she was a daughter of the late James C. Miller and Mildred Martin Miller. Mrs. Black was a retired piano teacher and was a member of Rose Chapel Uinted Methodist Church where she was formerly the church organist and choir director for 50 plus years and was an assistant Sunday School Teacher.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Martin Miller, a sister, Norma Miller Carpenter and a great grandson, Thomas C. King.
On Sepbember 7, 1947, she married Mr. L.A. Black, Jr. who survives. Also surviving are two sons, Tony Black and his wife, Shirley of Troutman and Sammy Black and his wife, Sherry of Winston-Salem, 2 brothers, Michael Miller of Statesville and Julian Miller of Newport News, Virginia. Also surviving are grandchildren: LeAnn Crider, Kristen King and Jayme Parrish and great grandchildren: Drew Crider, Eli Crider, Colin King and Graham Parrish.
Services celebating Carolyn's life will be conducted at 11:45 A.M. Wednesday at Rose Chapel United Methodist Church with Rev. Ralph Lepley and Rev. Lynne Lepley officiating. She will lie in state in the sanctuary from 10:00 until 11:30 while the family receives friends in the church fellowship hall. Pallbearers will be: Craig Miller, Scott Miller, Ron Boseman, Mark Jernigan, Bryan Lucas and Chip Weddington. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.
