Carolyn was a graduate of North Iredell High School, where she was an honor student—an early reflection of the steady diligence and thoughtful spirit that would shape the way she lived and cared for others.
For many years, Carolyn worked for Food Lion, serving the public faithfully with the kind of quiet consistency that never seeks attention, yet makes a lasting difference. At home, she was also a noted, great homemaker—hard-working in all the ways that matter, and devoted to making everyday life feel warm, ordered, and truly lived-in.
In 1969, Carolyn married her husband, Larry Alan Ferguson, and together they enjoyed 57 years of wedded joy. This union resulted in the birth of her beloved sons, Larry Steven Ferguson and David Alan Ferguson. As a wife and mother, she made home life special—through the care in her routines, the tenderness in her attention, and the simple, steady kindness that made others feel safe and valued. She loved to garden, and canning and preserving food were tasks she took on with joy, savoring the fruits of her labor. Tending flowers brought her great joy.
She also enjoyed camping, and she could throw horseshoes with the best—bringing a spirited ease to time spent outdoors and with family, always ready to join in and make the moment feel lighter.
A faithful member of Pleasant View Baptist Church in Harmony, Carolyn served in many roles, notably as a Sunday School teacher and pianist. In those places of worship and fellowship, her compassion found practical expression—offered through service, presence, and a heart that seemed to notice who needed encouragement.
Carolyn never met a stranger. She had a way of making people comfortable around her, letting them know they were cared about, and sharing her compassion freely—thoughtful, kind-hearted, and devoted in ways that will be remembered long after words fall short.
She is survived by her husband, Larry Alan Ferguson of Harmony; two sons, Larry Steven Ferguson (Mary Ellen) of Statesville and David Alan Ferguson (Cynthia) of Stony Point; one brother, Henry Campbell (Brenda) of Harmony; and five grandchildren, Marie, Alan (Kryslynn), Abby, Caleb, and Elizabeth.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, John Henry Campbell and Olivia Hortense Gregory Campbell.
