Catherine Elizabeth (Libby) Porter Moore, 94, passed away Saturday, December 8, 2012 at Valley Nursing Center in Taylorsville. Services celebrating her life will be conducted at the Westmoreland Chapel Of Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home in Statesville with Rev. Thomas Southern officiating at 7:00 P.M. Wednesday, December 12, 2012 with visitation to follow the service.
Mrs. Moore was born in Hopewell, Virginia on October 17, 1918 to James Alexander Porter, Sr. and Cora Emma Irene Smith. After her mother's death, Libby and her sisters were raised in Alexander Children's Home in Charlotte and a brother, Jimmy at Barium Springs Children's Home. Libby spent most of her life in Charlotte and later in North Wilkesboro and Huntersville and attended Pritchard Memorial Baptist Church and Wilkesboro Baptist Church. She attended Wilkes Community College and received her Certified Nursing Assistant license when she was 80 years of age.
Mrs. Moore was predeceased by her husbands: June Elijah Shaffner, Jr., Allen Duval Cowles and James Edward Moore. She was predeceased by her son, James Donald Shaffner, her grandson, Gregory Shaffner, daughter-in-law, Claire Gilleland Shaffner, great-great grandson, Peyton Elijah Parker and great-great grandaughter, Reese Walker Parker along with her siblings: Helen Virginia Porter Smith, Lois Marilyn Porter Talley Rhody, James Alexander Porter, Jr., Sarah Porter and Doris Porter.
She is survived by her sons David Porter Shaffner of Charlotte and J. E. (Bubba) Shaffner, III of Lake Norman and his fiance Libby Ensminger, 8 grandchildren: Robbie Shaffner(Melanie), Scott Shaffner (Jennifer), Libbi Shaffner Watts (Tim), Mark Shaffner, Lori Shaffner Shumate (Thomas), Kim Shaffner Jones (Steve), Joie Shaffner Herring and Wendy Duncan Smith (Brad), 20 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren. Also surviving her nephew, Elliott Porter, and former daughters-in-law: Ann Little Duncan (Randy) and Judy Lyons Walker.
