

He was born in Iredell County, June 16, 1946, son of the late Charles Shook, Sr. and Virginia Benfield Shook. He was a retired truck driver having driven for 38 years and logging over 6 million miles. He served in the U. S. Army and was married to Mary Powell Shook who survives. He was a faithful member of East Side Baptist Church, having served as superintendent of Sunday School and was known as the “Candy Man”. Charles was a devoted husband, father and pappaw. He loved his grandsons and loved to hunt and fish.
Also surviving are children, son; Chuck Shook (Lisa) and daughter; Lori Johnson both of Statesville, grandchildren Coty Johnson, Hunter Shook and Jacob Shook. Further surviving are sisters; Patsy Weston (Jeff) and Carol Stettler (Roy) of Statesville, Ann Lackey (Tom) of Lexington, Janet Shook of Yadkinville and Vickie McAllister (Chuck) of DeSoto, MO , and brother; Robin Shook of Statesville.
Services celebrating Sonny’s life are scheduled for Monday, January 14, 2013 at 2 p.m. at East Side Baptist Church, with Revs. John Parks, J. C. Parks, and Jim Morgan officiating. The body will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the funeral hour. Burial is to follow in Iredell Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Sunday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home.
Serving as Pallbearers will be Ashley Weston, Jerry Osborne, Timmy Summers, David Johns, Rick Horne, Jim Millsaps, J. T. Teague and Rick Knapp. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Berean Sunday School Class.
