

He was born December 5, 1948, in Dante, Virginia, and was the son of Beatrice Sutherland Musick. He was employed for 30 years at Blanton & Moore in Barium Springs.
He was preceded in death by a son, Benjamin Travis Sutherland; a great-grandson, Jose Agustin Romero; and a brother, Daniel Musick.
Chuck left behind surviving him, his loving wife of 39 years, Benita Kaye Bryant Sutherland, whom he married on October 25, 1970; eight children and their spouses, Alma and Billy Lyons and family, Tammy and Danny Riffle and family, Patricia and Juvencio Carbajal and family, Donna Sutherland and Celerino Aguirre and family, Charles James Sutherland, Jr., and William Edward Sutherland, all of Statesville, Kristal Sutherland and Jesus Ramirez and family and Dorothy and Eugenio Mata and family, both of West Jefferson; three grandchildren whom he raised, Eugenio, Maria, and Eva Carbajal of the home; and twenty-four grandchildren, all of Statesville. He is also survived by his mother, Beatrice Sutherland Musick of Statesville; two sisters, Barbara Ostwalt of Statesville and Stella Helton of Virginia; two brothers, Blaine Sutherland of Troutman and Billy Grizzle of Tennessee; and two very special friends, James William Bryant of Welch, WV, and Web King of Statesville.
Funeral services celebrating Chuck’s life will be held at 6:00 PM Tuesday, April 6, 2010, in the Westmoreland Chapel of Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home with the Rev. Joseph Bare officiating.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 9:00 PM Monday at the funeral home and also on Tuesday immediately following the service.
