Clyde Franklin Lindley

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Alice Lambert Lindley in 2009. They eloped to Gaffney, South Carolina, as teenagers, and were married on March 23, 1943.

Mr. Lindley was born and raised in South Statesville. He was a child of the great depression who rose above poverty to lead a long and successful life. He loved to talk about his boyhood days of freedom when children could play all day, return home at dark, and be safe and sound.

Mr. Lindley had many interests. He was an avid gardener and worked a large garden in his 91st year. He loved to share produce with friends and relatives. Additionally, he liked arts and crafts to make when the weather turned cool in the fall. He would often share these items with friends and family.

Having been raised poor he loved to give to those in need with a surprise gift.

He worked at J. C. Penney warehouse as an order-filler from 1948 until his retirement in 1986.

Two brothers, Wesley Eugene and Herbert Hoover Lindley and one sister, Lillie Mae Lindley Shoemaker also preceded him in death.

Left to cherish his memory are two daughters, Gloria Jean (Gordon) Troutman and Clydean Elizabeth (Harry) Lipe, five grandchildren: Marla Houston, Chad Troutman, Jeffrey Troutman, Jessica Lipe, David Lipe, and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 1, 2015 at Diamond Hill Baptist Church with Rev Larry Holleman officiating. Services will begin with visitation at 10 am in the church foyer and funeral services to begin at 11 am. Burial will follow in the Oakwood Cemetery.

Pall bearers will be Chad, Jeffrey, and Cutter Troutman, Jerry Houston, Ronald Clodfelter, David Lipe, and John Ottone.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to Diamond Hill Baptist Church located at 2320 East Broad Street, Statesville NC 28625 , Hospice of Iredell County located at 2347 Simonton Road, Statesville NC 28625, or the charity of the givers choice.
