

He pursued higher education with an undergraduate degree from Western Carolina University and a master's degree in Industrial Arts from Appalachian State University. His career was marked by roles as a university instructor and in sales.
Dewey had a keen interest in the internet, which he enjoyed exploring in his personal time.
He is survived by his wife of five years, Anne Waters, of the home; his son, Dewey "Doug" Waters Jr., of the home; his daughters, Cathy McCracken (Jeff) and Karen Waters; and his stepdaughter, Melody Beach. Dewey also leaves behind a granddaughter, Logan Holt.
He was preceded in death by his first wife of 58 years, Janice Hyder Waters; his father, Thomas Waters; his mother, Fannie Kephart Waters; five brothers; and his stepson, Byron Andrew Beach.
Private services will be held at a later date.
