Dearest Pat, 
I was so sorry to read just today that Don has passed away. I remember all those times he brought you to my office so I could try to help you with all that awful pain. Don was such a wonderful caretaker and was always so concerned about getting you well. It saddens my heart that you have to go through this loss, and I hope you are receiving good care in his absence. I have thought of you both over the years and would like to visit you sometime but don’t know if you are still in your Raleigh home. With much love, Pat. You will be in my prayers. Marge Freeman

My heart is broken at the loss of Don. I have such fond memories of him and his laugh. He and Pat have been such wonderful friends to me and my daughters. When I had the opportunity to talk with Don in the past at times when we lost a mutual friend, he was a true friend to me. The world has a real loss without Don. Pat, I am here for you anytime. 

Don and Pat were my parents’ family friends during my childhood. Then Don gave me a job in 1995 working as a full time office assistant, a “secretary” in those days. I had no experience and just finished my Masters degree in Dance, but Don believed in me. He taught me how to be an administrative assistant, as he was meticulous and hands-on in his business. His “red pen” corrected many of my memos but in doing so, he showed me attention to detail and the rules of business correspondence. He taught me about marketing back in the days before websites and social media, and he and Pat helped me learn how to design and send mass mailers by labeling each one by hand and sorting for bulk mail. This may sound mundane, but it literally was the foundation for my 30-year career as an administrative assistant who can do marketing also. I have thought of him and his caring attention that kept me from waiting tables my whole life! I will always be thankful for him, and remember his twinkling eyes, easy smile, sense of humor and loads of energy. I know he is up in heaven organizing everything and has it running smoothly and efficiently. My love to Pat and his family.

My heart breaks for Pat as she and Don were the epitome of a loving and devoted husband and wife. He was truly a one-of-a-kind and my family’s love and prayers go out to their entire family. 

Pat & Ryan I search for words that might offer comfort & find none!  I loved Donald like a brother and consider myself lucky to call him friend!  This world is a better place because he passed through it!  However it doesn’t erase the void we are all feeling!  I hope to see you both soon and hope you can find some comfort in knowing how much I care  & share your loss. RIP my amazing friend!!
