Dorothy Emaline Davidson

Dorothy H. Davidson, 93, of Statesville, NC, peacefully passed into the loving arms of her Heavenly Father on Sunday evening, February 19, 2012, just before 7:00 PM after a five-year battle with dementia and recent declining health. She died in the Harris Hospice unit of Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte, NC. Dorothy was born January 2, 1919, in Iredell County, the last surviving of six children of the late Charles H. and Lena York Harris.

Dorothy graduated from Celeste Henkel High School in 1936 and worked in the textile industry until she retired from Beauty Maid Mills. She also taught sewing classes. Dorothy loved working in her yard and growing flowers, but her grandsons were her true love.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Harold C. Davidson; three brothers, Clyde Hoyt Harris, Ray E. Harris; and Ben E. Harris; and two sisters, Helen H. Perry and Arlene H. Shrum, all of Statesville, NC.

She is survived by her son, Robert O. “Bob” Davidson, Sr. of Myrtle Beach, SC; her daughter, Sylvia Bowen Byrd of Charlotte, NC; four grandsons, Zachary C. Bowen of Charlotte, Robert O. “Rob” Davidson, Jr. of Miami, FL, Brandon A. Davidson of Mount Pleasant, SC, and Tyler A Davidson of Myrtle Beach, SC, as well as one great grandson, Chandler Lucas Bowen of Charlotte, NC.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, February 25, 2012, at Front Street Baptist Church in Statesville followed by a brief graveside service at the family burial plot at Oakwood Cemetery with Rev. Marvin Boyer officiating. The family will receive friends at Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Friday evening, February 24, 2012.
