

Rev. Dwight Benjamin Hastings, 65, of 539 Bethlehem Road, died Sunday, June 24, 2012, at his residence. He was born in Iredell County, September 16, 1946, son of the late Charlie McCoy Hastings and Gladys Mae Morrow Hastings. He was a member of Unity Baptist Church and pastored and assisted many Pastors in the area; Open Door Baptist Church and Victory Baptist Church in Statesville and Lake Norman Baptist Church and Friendship Baptist Church in Mooresville. On June 14, 1967 he married JoAnn Canipe Hastings who survives of the home.
In addition to his wife of 45 years, Rev. Hastings is survived by two sons; Micheal Ernest Hastings of Lincolnton and Dwight Marvin Hastings (Jennifer) of Harmony, two daughters; Jodie Loretta Brittain (Dennis) of Statesville and Joy Lee Ann Hastings of Mooresville. Also surviving are brothers David McCoy Hastings (Bobbie) of Woodleaf, Lester Ray Hastings of Conover, James William Hastings (Gwen) of Statesville and Johnny Charles Hastings (Barbara) of Taylorsville, sisters; Anna Lee Parker (Freddie) of Lincolnton, Evelyn Frances Scruggs of Statesville. Grandchildren are Lekeshia Hope Hastings, Kristy Nicole Hastings, Micheal Brandon Hastings, Marie Beth Hastings, David Arron Lee Hastings; Tyler Dwight Hastings and Landon Preston Hastings, great grandchildren Titanna Aaliyah Lassiter, Mia Ashley McCurdy and Ava Nicole McCurdy. An aunt surviving is Sadie Hastings Johnson of Mooresville and numerous other relatives.
Services celebrating the life of Rev. Hastings will be held on Friday, June 29, 2012 @ 11 a.m. in the Westmoreland Chapel with Rev. Tony Bunton, Rev. Don Myers and Rev. James Keever officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home.
