

Edith L. Lackey Lockman, 92, Statesville, NC died Monday, October 20, 2014 after a short stay at the Gordon Hospice House. For the three months prior to hospice, Edith was lovingly cared for in the home of her grandson, Jeromy Lockman, wife Misty (loving caregiver) and their children, Christopher and Chloe. Edith was born on August 10, 1922 to the late Edward Ernest Lackey and Katie Jaunita Anthony Lackey. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Ned Eugene Lockman, Sr. on April 15, 1953, her grandson, Ned Eugene Lockman, III, her mother-in-law Cordia Ball Lockman Meyers, her sisters, Dorothy (Mrs. Frank) Perry and Molena Lackey, her mother and father, and her grandmother, Rebecca Melinda Anthony.
Edith always lived in Statesville, was educated in the Statesville schools, and worked until her retirement at Bali Manufacturing. She liked to mention her first job at Fraley's Grocery. She attended St. Paul's Lutheran Church. She loved to read, but her first love was spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She especially enjoyed her work and service as a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of VFW Post 2031 continuing her membership through 2011. She served as an officer, committee chairman, honor guard, etc. both on the local and state levels. She attended state and national conventions and was especially fond of her volunteer work with the VA hospitals in Salisbury and Asheville, NC. Edith was presented with commendations for her hundreds of hours of service to the veterans.
Edith is survived by her three children, Mrs. Peggy Sprinkle, Mrs. Brenda Hutcherson (and husband Steve) of Flat Rock, NC and Mr. Ned Lockman, Jr (and wife Donna). Grandchildren are Mr. Nathan Sprinkle, Mrs. Tracy Poole (Eddie), Mrs. Stephanie Orr (Steven) of Hendersonville, NC, Mr. Jeromy Lockman (Misty), Mr. Matthew Hutcherson (Ann) of Skopje, Macedonia, Mrs. Carrie Clark (Robert) of Fort Bragg, NC, Mr. Benjamin Lockman (Hillary) Mrs. Amanda Mazzola (Davide) of Mt. Pleasant, SC, and Mr. Brian Lockman. Great Grandchildren David Parlier, Rebecca Poole, Christopher Lockman, Ally Jones, Natalie Lockman, Brenna Orr, Chloe Lockman, Sarah Orr, Anthony Mazzola, and Jakeb and Joshua Clark.
A celebration of her life will be held at the Westmoreland Chapel of Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home on Friday, October 24, 2014 at 11:00 am followed immediately by the interment at Oakwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:30 until 11:00.
